Today I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. All of us writing on that same word.

Today’s prompt is …. Present.

As of late, I have been noticing the clouds. Their formation and movement differs each day; the shading of colors and varied shapes bring a new beauty to behold and admire.

One morning this week, somehow I came to read this verse in Leviticus {{seriously how I ended up there I have no idea}}, where God is speaking to Moses …

“For the Ark’s cover – the place of atonement – is there, and I myself am present in the cloud above the atonement cover.” (Leviticus 16:2b, NLT)

In this temple, in the Most Holy Place, God gave a visible sign that He was present with His people. God desires for us to be assured that He exists, and is at hand, for us to call upon.

Elijah was praying for rain. He bowed low to the ground, face between his knees. His servant upon checking the horizon reports back, “I see a little cloud about the size of a man’s fist rising from the sea.” (my version but check 1 Kings 18 for the entire story).

A cloud – a tiny mass of particles of condensed vapor – filled them with hope and assurance that God was present. And so they do today.

Every cloud has a silver lining …
for they bring the reminder that God is present.
Here and now.
