“Remember we all stumble, every one of us. That’s why it’s a comfort to go hand in hand.” (Emily Kimbrough)

Have you ever noticed that once we have stumbled a bit, we never forget the hand of the one who came alongside of us.

We remember the stumble – the time we slipped, made a mistake while being watched, or the blunder which caused deep embarrassment in front of a group of our peers. The memory stays seared in our memories for years, as if it happened just yesterday.

Our God does not rejoice when His own take a stumble. In fact, we are told …

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” (Psalm 37:23-24, NLT)

We may miss a step, or slip a little but our God is right there to keep us from going down for the count. He not only keeps us up, He holds our hand to assure that we go on steadily.

“Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling.”
(Psalm 66:9, NLT)

He not only holds our hands …
He holds our lives.

We remember the hand which was extended to inspire us to get back up, to have the courage to press forward, and not give up. We are told, I would dare say maybe commanded to,

“Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people.” (Romans 12:15-16, NLT

We are all ordinary people living out our lives to tell His story. We need each other to infuse courage much like an IV drip infuses life to a sick patient. It is the very means by which we become emboldened – able to live boldly – while we stand shoulder to shoulder through the stumbles and scrapes.

Let’s be ordinary people living extraordinary lives.
Let’s hold hands and live!
