Growing up in the Church, it was said that God was a gentleman.

The meaning was made clear – God does not force Himself on people. He desires for us to come to Him willingly, wanting Him in our lives and pliable to His purposes.

Some days, this involves submitting to His plan which can often seem obscure and mysterious. Other days, life seems to make no sense at all. The wisest man in the Bible, King Solomon, encourages us with these words:

“Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator.” (Ecclesiastes 12:1, NLT)

It’s easy, when we are young, to forget God has a plan for each of our lives. Actually, it is a struggle we can battle for all of our days.

We want to go our own way, do our own thing, follow the whims of our hearts, and somehow, we want it to be His plan for us as well.

We forget. We forget that He is the Creator. We are the created. Yet He never forgets us. In fact, He waits for us.

Our Creator quietly takes a backseat when life vies for our hearts and attention. He does not force His Presence on us. Rather, He respects our freedom to forget Him, or maybe even – ignore Him.

It is a glorious moment in time when we remember …

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.” (Isaiah 30:18, NIV)

Our Creator rises to show us compassion when we remember Him. He stays in the background, waiting to be gracious to us and show us His compassion towards us. When I remember my Creator and His response to me, my response can be nothing short of falling to my knees …

“When I think of this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and earth.” (Ephesians 3:14, NLT)

And as my knees fall to the floor,

  • I am empowered with inner strength through his Spirit.
  • He makes his home in my heart.
  • my roots grow down into God’s love.
  • I am kept strong.
  • I am able to understand God’s love.

May we remember our Creator. For as we remember … “Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3:19b, NLT)
