3. Joanne One Word 2016- 500x500-1

The internet and social media have made it easy to see and know more than we need. We discover the good, the bad, and the ugly with the simple scroll of our mouse.

In a recent text conversation this past week, I responded to the sad news of the failure of someone admired. I am not making excuses but the truth is that we all do fall. Sin is in each of our lives and yet, we seem to grade it, putting sin on a curve as if some are worse than others. We can even push aside the truth that Christ’s blood covers it all.

Position, opportunity, reputation, and influence all gone with the making of one wrong choice. None of us deserve the influence we have been given and failure can happen to any one of us. We are warned of the probability in Scripture …

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what other experience.
(1 Corinthians 10:12-13, NLT)

No one starts out with wanting to fall, fail, or sin. No one. Most of us would be of the opinion that it could never happen in our lives. But Scripture gives the sobering warning for us to be careful.

So what are we to do?

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life … In view of all this, make very effort to respond to God’s promises.
(2 Peter 1: 3a, 5a, NLT)

God has already given us everything. But it requires something on our part … We need to make ever effort, stewarding wisely that which we have been given. We must take charge of what we have, managing it as if our lives depend on it because the truth is, our lives do!

Just because we have much handed to us, does not guarantee we will be wise with handling it. We may not put it to the best use or honor it. We may make light of the opportunities and let them slip away. We may not treasure it at all until we have let it slip through our very fingers.

Having all you need is not the same thing as making the best you can with it.

Let’s smarten up. Let’s make every effort to stay in Scripture and respond to it. May we allow His Word to give us the resolve to stand strong in Christ. Let’s come alongside of one another, extending a hand to pull one another back up.

And let us remember …
We been given everything we need for living a godly life.
Let’s make the best of this life He’s given us.
