“O Lord, the God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, make your people always want to obey you. See to it that their love for you never changes. Give my son Solomon the wholehearted desire to obey all your commands, laws, and decrees, and to do everything necessary to build this Temple, for which I have made these preparations.” (1 Chronicles 29:18, 19 NLT).

David prayed these words for the people of Israel and particularly for his son Solomon. He did not ask for riches, power, success, or fame.

I read David’s word and realize this is a prayer for us all. Every parent should be praying for their children and we can be asking God for the same. May we be faithful to pray for lives of:

  • Obedience. May our children want to obey God. Prayer can change their wants and direct them in their choices.
  • Love. May their love for God never diminish but increase. Think about that. May our children always love God, first and faithfully.
  • Wholeheartedness. May they have a wholehearted desire to obey Him. May their hearts be full out for God, undivided and undistracted.
  • Purposeful. May they do everything necessary to complete the purposes He has for them to do in their lifetime.

Can we even imagine the power that would be unleashed in the lives of our kids if we prayed for them like this?

Today may we be faithful to pray for our children. We need to pray for the children in their classes, on their sports teams, in their dance classes, and sitting at their lunch tables.

As the new school year is upon us, let’s commit to pray daily and see the lives of our children and grandchildren changed.

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:16b NLT).
