Friday means looking at the word prompt and joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Many of us writing on that same word.

Today’s prompt is … Path.

The call often comes late at night, while he is driving home. A new city means driving roads yet unknown to him.  Road construction means detours bringing further unfamiliarity with its twists and turns.

He states, “I am using so much data on my phone with the GPS but I need it.”

He is correct. We need to know where we are going. Wandering aimlessly is something I seek to avoid in life. These days I find myself grateful for the navigation system in my car which tells me where, when, and how far in the distance the turn is up ahead.

Her directions blanket me with a confidence and assurance I will arrive at my destination.

Yet life often takes us on paths not yet traveled. And the promise comes before me –

“Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.” (Psalm 77:19, NIV)

I try to imagine what it had to be like the day God parted the waters of the Red Sea for His people and made a path.

Did the ground tremble and quake as God’s power pushed the waters apart, forming a wall on either side the dry ground? Was the sound like that of a roar?

The path the Israelites took that day of deliverance was one they had never walked before. It was a deliverance unprecedented and yet they had to trust God.

He led them much the way a shepherd would lead his flock – protecting them, guiding them powerfully yet gently.

And the reminder sits before me, printed on the pages in black and white for me to remember and hold onto.

This same God, my God, worked mightily in the past, leading through new paths.
He will never lead me where He has not gone before me.
Even when His footprints are not seen,
He is marking my path.

Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Grace & Truth and Faith ‘N Friends and #FreshMarketFriday .
