Life does not always go as planned but somehow I think you may have noticed that already. As much as we can attempt to map out our goals (aka – a five year plan) and dreams, there often can be little actually in our control.

The plans are held in the sovereign hands of Another:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT)

Brave has often been defined as “possessing or exhibiting courage or courageous endurance” (dictionary.com).

To think of “brave” in terms of something I possess is a stretch at times, as most days, I have often felt more like a chicken. I am the one who wades out into the waters slowly, testing both the temperature and feel of the ground under my feet. Comfort is my goal and so jumping in without hesitancy is not a part of my make-up.

But in recent years, I have tried the waters a bit more. In her book, Brave Faith, Mary Geisen shares:

The biggest lesson I have learned is that brave is ongoing and continues to evolve and mature while we become braver one step at a time. (page 1)

In fact, in her own life, she learned this about brave faith:

Brave faith requires courage and consistency. It is a journey of constantly letting go of whatever is holding us back and letting God lead us into the Promised Land. (page 4)

In this 31 day devotional, Mary takes us one step at a time out into the deeper waters where we find more “yeses” than “no’s”. She gently guides us out of our comfort zones to discover that we all can, indeed, be brave and in fact, braver than we realize.

The devotional includes verses for reflection and several questions to journal making this an excellent book for individual or group study. Mary’s insights are meaningful, shared with transparency, and thought provoking. Each devotional is encouraging as they build a foundation of bravery, one day upon another.

This devotional book left me encouraged as I realized, brave truly is a journey we travel throughout our life. Each day brings progress sometimes in leaps and bounds and other days, ever so slightly.

You are braver than you know. Each day we make brave decisions in the daily routines, the challenges and every time we choose to step out of our comfort zones. Each brave decision leads us one step closer to letting God take charge of our lives. It is trusting God’s truths over our own. Brave happens everyday and strengthens us to be who God always knew we would be. (page 91)

You can find Mary sharing on her blog, Passage Through Grace. I was not asked to review her book and purchased this devotional on my own as her words are always encouraging to me and will bless you as well.
