We are told our stories matter. Yet so often, it is the current day stories we share, forgetting to delve back into our history. Our church history is particularly important to share for it is the way by which our our children learn about heroes of the faith and hold onto biblical truths. Simonetta Carr writes about such heroes in a way that is sure to draw in, and keep, the attention of children.

In her book, Martin Luther – Christian Biographies for Young Readers, Simonetta Carr tells the story of a monk who asked questions which changed the course of Western churches and history.

Martin Luther is known as the father of the Protestant Reformation. It was his own personal journey for peace with God and God’s truth which she writes about for children ages 7-12 to learn and understand.

The book begins with his life as a young law student, continuing on through his questions which led to the Reformation, to the raising of his own family, until his death.

The text is written in a well-formatted fashion making it easy to read. Carr’s writing style causes this to unfold like a storybook, yet the facts make this a wonderful textbook or addition to a library for its historical background. The book is beautifully illustrated, further enhancing the ability of the reader to grasp both the story, the importance, and the impact of Martin Luther’s life and work.

Once again, the author includes a “Did you know?’ section in which she brings lesser known facts about Martin Luther. This section brought Luther to life in personal way as we get glimpses of Luther from various perspectives.

This is a hard covered book with pages beautifully printed making this a wonderful book to gift to any child or school library.
