No matter the years, every time this sight causes me to remember God. We round the bend and it feels like coming home.

But that day in the car, we rode on unfamiliar roads. The ride had been longer than anticipated but had been therapy for my soul as the soft strains of music filled the car. As thoughts came, I would jot them down on my phone so as not to forget.

We’ve been home for a few weeks now and the ride and the music remains in my thoughts. I have returned often to read my notes. There is something about New Hampshire, it’s the place God has often displayed Himself to me as He leaves evidence of Himself everywhere.

It’s been a hard summer. The news each day is disheartening and often leaves me wondering what is wrong with people? With us all? So much discord, violence, and hatred being displayed all around us.

With each piece of news, I remind myself – only Jesus.

Only Jesus is the answer to it all.

Only Jesus can overcome the hatred, the violence, the killing, the illnesses.

The music and words flow through my mind:

“But Your love reached all the way, Your love reached all the way …”
(from “The Wondrous Cross” as sung by Christy Nockels)

Our hope is found only in Jesus, in His completed work on the Cross. We must keep our eyes on Him, more so, on the Cross.

John, exiled to the island of Patmos, writing down the visions he received, writes in Revelation of the voices of thousands of angels singing in a mighty chorus:

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered – to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” (Revelation 5:12, NLT)

And then he heard every creature in heaven and earth singing:

“Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” (Revelation 5:13, NLT)

We are then told of what occurred next, immediately:

“And the twenty four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb.” (verse 14)

All of heaven recognizes the powerful work of the Lamb, as does all created beings. John has already told them to stop their weeping, “the heir to David’s throne has won the victory” (verse 5).

At the Cross, God’s plan was completed. It was the beginning of the end. The end has already been accomplished.

And our only response can be … worship.

The melody is softly coming from my computer…

Now You’re my resting place, when trouble I must face.
I won’t be overwhelmed. Jesus, Your love has won.
And my faith looks up to Thee, Sweet Lamb of Calvary.”
(again from “The Wondrous Cross” as sung by Christy Nockels)

The mountains, cloud formations, and beauty combined with the music that day weeks ago, had caused me to quickly type on my phone:

When we lose the wonder of the Cross, we cease leaning on the Cross.
May we never lose the wonder.
