I wrote this post a few years ago and am revisiting it today …

There are days God shows up in the most unexpected, and undeserved ways, and He leaves me breathless, full of emotion and praise.

I will admit, I have had some big requests of Him lately. Big in my estimation, but then I am human, limited, and finite. He is God, therefore, He is bigger than I think He is, able to do so much more than I think He can do, and has no limits. None. Some days have been easier than others to maintain that focus but He helps me to keep steady.

Like the time with the mushrooms …

I spotted something growing underneath our pine tree. I had not planted there and hardly anything grows there.

Under my pine tree was a group of mushrooms.

They were beautiful. They were not the mushrooms like one would buy in a supermarket. They were not brown. They were beautiful shades of orange and yellow, varied in size and shape. Drawing closer, it felt like entering into a fantasy world one might find in a Disney movie. They were stunning. They spoke of a Creator who would place them there for me so that I would be awed and marvel.

As I came in the house to look at my photos, I remembered God’s promises.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”Â  (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV).

In those very times and areas of our lives, when we feel like we are in the middle of nothingness and waste, He is causing something to happen in our lives. From the barrenness, He is forcing growth to spring up. He makes a way where there seemed to be no way. He creates streams where there was drought.

He causes continued growth and fruit to burst in our lives.

“And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the wasteland. ” (Isaiah 35:5-6, NLT)

Scripture is telling us to expect the unexpected.

It’s kind of like my mushroom experience. We will find beauty where we least expect it. We will find growth where there should be none. We will bear fruit in our lives when we did not plant. He will make a way when there seemed to be no way.

Why will He do this for us?

“I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for Myself that they may proclaim my praise.”
(Isaiah 43:20, 21 NIV).

Look for the mushrooms in life.
And when you find them?
Be sure to give Him the praise that He alone is so deserving to receive.
