He asked for his woolen cap from his hospital bed but it was not in his bag that day. She reached for a towel to make a “cap” of sorts and I reached for my phone, “When you come in, can you bring a new wool cap with you from one of the dealerships?”

A short while later, my husband arrived with the cap in his pocket and she showed it to him. A small smirk came across his eyes when he saw the name on the front and he jokingly said, “Oh I stepped down from [insert name of manufacturer]. Am I not good enough?”

We all laughed at his humor, yet intact.

I’ve watched him wear the cap for a number of days now. Who knew a woolen cap had a lesson to teach me, but it has taught quite the lesson. I have worn quite a few caps in my time and I am not a cap wearer. Perhaps you too?

I have been a daughter, sister, wife, in-law (daughter-in-law & sister-in-law), mother, employee, aunt, mother-in-law, and Mimi. Who knows what cap will be donned in the days ahead?

The truth is I did not wear the cap because I could fit the role perfectly as I am quite flawed, and my mistakes have been plentiful.

Yet God positioned me in my life to fill a role I was totally unprepared, or unequipped, to do. And I have asked the question many a times, “Am I not good enough?”

That day, as the woolen cap was placed on his head for warmth it hit me …It has nothing to do with being good enough, or prepared, or equipped.

God positions us. He calls us to just “be”. Be there. Do the thing. Be in Him.

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10, NLT)

It is His grace. His power. And it works best in our weaknesses.

Our weaknesses are opportunities for the power of Christ to be seen and speak of God’s grace.

And He is enough.
Wear the cap He has chosen for you.
