Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is ā¦ Overcome.
The verse came in the middle of the night, 4AM to be exact, and continued to weave its way deeply into my thoughts until it stirred me out from the bed …
“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.” (Hebrews 6:19, NLT)
Anchors. They keep a vessel tethered for safety and to prevent drifting. They can be permanent or temporary but one thing is certain – if one does not want to drift or be overcome, one must be anchored when the storms occur.
Overcome, as defined by dictionary.com, is “to prevail over; to surmount; to conquer.”
Life can usher in a storm quicker than the blink of an eye. The storms may threaten to overcome us if we do not remember that we have an Anchor. We are held safe and secure as the Anchor will hold.
Our Anchor will not slip, break down, come untied, nor let us go for we have a permanent anchor.
He will hold and He will hold us.
And we will not be overcome.

It’s amazing how God can be sure to put a verse in front of us repeatedly. And I so love when He does!
I love that verse- and the song! Both great reminders of where we should put our trust, and that we have an anchor that is absolutely secure.

Love this song, and the illustrations of an anchor and lighthouse. For those of us in a non-boating realm, we can forget the significance of both those illustrations. Thanks, for the reminder.
I love that we all can point each other to things outside of our own realm of thinking to see significances we might otherwise miss in God’s Word.

I love that Christ is our anchor. Oh and my lighthouse…..one of my fave ones. I’m so excited to see Rend in concert on Thursday.

I appreciate your steady witness to God’s power and faithfulness, Joanne. It’s so true that our lives can change in a moment! But with such a powerful anchor, we can overcome! (And I love that song. It brings a smile to my face every time.)
