Having some time to myself, I sat to read a bit. Just the feel of the leather in my hands brought a flood of assurance and confidence to my  soul. Randomly flipping The Book open, I read the words before me:

“Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, who you look for so eagerly, is coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” (Malachi 3:1, NLT)

Malachi, the last prophet in the Old Testament. The people, God’s people, had already endured captivity and have been back in the land, their land. After a time, the people had returned to a casualness with God, even neglecting His requirements.

Malachi called the people – challenging them, to sincere worship and a return to God’s standards. He reminded them to take their eyes off of circumstances and remember a Savior was coming. He would set all things right.

And Malachi’s words speak assurance to me as well –

“The King is coming.
He will return and
and make all things right.”

In this last book of the Old Testament, when the people thought it might all be done, completed, and over, the message came, “It’s not over!”

And so comes the message to me as well … “It’s not over!”

We have a King. His plan will not be thwarted in our lives. He keeps every word He has spoken. He loves us with a love so fierce we cannot comprehend.

After Malachi speaks this word, God goes silent. Silence for 400 years to be exact. This people, who were accustomed to hearing from God, heard nothing but the sound of silence.

What are we to do when God is silent in our lives?

We hold onto the truth that our King is coming.

He stays faithful to His promises and will one day return to make all things right.

“He who is the faithful witness to all these things says,
“Yes, I am coming soon!”
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s holy people.”
(Revelation 22:20-21, NLT)
