Each Friday my writing stems from a word prompt. Five minutes, one word prompt. The prompt this week is ā€¦ Excuse.

Reading the word prompt, my mind wonders … Does she mean the verb or the noun?

As a noun, ‘excuse’ is the apology, the reason, or the way we seek to get out of an obligation. When used as a verb, ‘excuse’ is when we are offering an apology, a reason, or release from an obligation.

Looking at the two definitions in front of me, I quickly acknowledge, “I have no excuse for my sins”. I knew better.

When we do not make excuses for our sins, He excuses us from the penalty of our sin through His forgiveness.

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (1 John 1:9, NLT)

Forgiveness and continued relationship with God are promised to us as we confess our sin, our wrongdoing, making no excuse for sin. God, who is faithful and just, accepts Christ’s death for our sins as full payment for the penalty that was ours and ours alone.

When we make no excuse for our sins,
His blood covers and excuses us.
