In reading this morning….

“True influence is possible when you hold true to your principles & values & when you use your God-given gifts for the benefit of those around you.” from “Leadership is Dead: How Influence is Reviving it”,  pg. 71.

Hold true. I like that. It is in the holding true to God’s principles that our lives will yield fruit. Seems like a very similar piece of advice was given to us by the writer of Hebrews…

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”  (Hebrews 10: 23)

Unswervingly means without turning aside to something else. That means not letting the influences around you – people, media, what is politically correct – move you in any way. Easier said than done. Yet with God’s Spirit residing in us, it is doable. Sometimes it may even mean holding true and fighting at the very same time.

And why do we do just that?

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”  (Hebrews 10:35, 36).
