Yesterday was an outside sort of day. Sophia has loved playing with her water table. It did not take her long to figure out to fill a bucket & throw the water at others, namely – ME!!! When she saw that I was not embracing the idea of having water thrown at me, she quickly explained, “Mimi, let me do it just a little bit. You won’t mind it at all.” A little bit quickly turned into a little bit more & a little bit more. So I explained to her that I wanted to toss a little water at her. I told her to let me do it a little bit. That she wouldn’t mind it at all. But she still remained quite adamant that I was not to do it & she would not like it at all. How is it that at this young of an age, we can desire to do to someone what we ourselves do not want done to us? That is just so funny to me. This morning as I thought back to yesterday & to the conversation I had with a 3 year old, I got to remembering the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:12…

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”

Very simply put —> treat others the way that you would want to be treated.

That word “do” has a most interesting definition. It means “expressing action”. It further means “an external act as manifested in the production of something tangible, something obvious”.

This is a very simple way of relating to people. We treat others in the way that you would want them to treat you in that same circumstance. The catch is this – we don’t do this in order to receive good or better treatment of ourselves in return. We do this to obey & honor our God. Regardless of the treatment we receive in return.

The question I am asking myself this afternoon is…

How am I doing with this?

The question to ask yourself is…

How are you doing with this?

Simple, profound principle that can be such a challenge some days.
