Today is Sunday. For me, for many of us – we will attend church. Scripture calls this day, “the Sabbath”.

”Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”             (Mark 2:27 NIV).

This day, the Sabbath, was made for us. So often we come to church with what we are bringing to it – our service. We will serve in whatever church we attend. We will come & be a part of teaching Sunday School, the worship team, usher, make coffee, preach the Word, pastor, or lay person. But it was never meant to be that way. At all.

Mark Buchanan in his book, “The Rest of God”, explains:

“This day was made for us. God gave it to you and me for our sake, for our benefit, for our strengthening & our replenishment.” (page 219).

So today may we come to church & somehow find our “rest” in the midst of our activity, of our serving. May we enter into The Sabbath & somehow find that we have been strengthened, restored, replenished, repaired & prepared for the week ahead.
