When my daughter was 16 years old, my mom asked us for the first time if we would all like to go to Women of Faith. With that invite, started a family tradition of generations going to this one weekend each year to laugh, cry, & be renewed in our spirits.

Over the years, we had aunts, cousins, 2nd cousins, granddaughters, & yes, even great-daughters & friends join us. Each year brought a different mix of people but it always began with my mom, my daughter & myself. The three of us were present each year since we began.

This is the first year that mom has decided not to attend. There are no words to express the depth of repercussions that decision has created. None. This morning, I am reminded of something Paul wrote to Timothy. So at times like these, it is best to abstain from my own words & let God speak the words….

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5 NIV).

This is how a legacy of faith begins. It starts with one person. It gets handed down to the next in line. Who hands it down to the next one. I have been blessed to be the 3rd in this legacy of faith. No words will ever be able to express the depth of gratitude I feel towards my grandmother & my mom for their faithfulness in imparting an awareness of my God. I thank God for a mom who never let my brother & I leave the house for school without speaking the words, “Walk with the King today!’ from behind us. It was pretty hard to cheat on a test after hearing those words :))

You may not be third in a line of faith. But you can be the first in a line & change generations to come in your family line. Wherever you are in that line, I exhort you to, “Be faithful. Hand off that baton of faith.”

So this blog is dedicated to my grandmother & my mom – for being living & active & authentic “Women of Faith”!!!!!!
