Iām joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is ā¦ Real.
I have been thinking about this prompt since reading of it last night. My thoughts have swirled in my head and I am not sure they will even make sense.
But I am longing for real people in my life.
Real, as in >> authentic, genuine, not fake, not merely called so, unfeigned, and sincere.
And I am thinking “real” people are harder to come by these days. This was the thought I fell asleep on. But then this morning, God wasn’t done with the whole concept of “real” as He asked …
“Are you real?”
It was with that question looming large before me, I realized we all need:
- a Paul > a wise mentor, to push us in our faith.
- a Barnabas > an encourager, who cheers you on when life gets difficult.
- a Timothy > someone younger in the faith to pour into.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (Hebrews 10:24, NLT)
Let’s be real.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Dance With Jesus and Fellowship Friday .
Hi there! I’m your FMF neighbor today…grateful to be visiting your little corner of the internet this morning. I wonder sometimes if social media and our “online presence” have made it harder to find “real” people? Or maybe it’s just harder to tell where online image stops and “real” begins. We all share the parts of our story that we want others to see, but some things obviously get left out. Maybe that’s more noticeable in “real” life than online.
Happy Friday- thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. š
I think you raise a very good point. In life, we get to see the messy parts up close. May God show us all how to be real with one another in the days ahead.
My first thoughts were the Velveteen Rabbit; and I guess I was pondering if I WAS real?! Loved your take on the word prompt…and that you pondered on the word yourself, waiting ’til morning to post! I may need to start doing that myself. Not sure how much sense I made – I am sooooo tired trying to get mine done on Thur. night!!
Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE The Velveteen Rabbit! So did my children. I find if I read the word prompt, don’t read the posts of others, and wait until the morning, the Lord causes me to think about it more. So glad you stopped here. May you have a great weekend!
Loved reading your post – if only we all had the capacity to realise the need to be real and the need for a Paul, a Barnabas and a Timothy! {A FMF friend}
It is amazing to think about the many facets of relationship & how each one blesses us & others. Grateful you stopped here!
Indeed! I love stopping by your FMF posts! Helen
In this world crowded with false images of appear to be real life, authenticity is even harder to find. Praying you have a blessed weekend!
May we not fall into the trappings of being duplicitous but be authentic ourselves. We owe that to one another. Keep being your authentic self! Blessings!
Amen to that. I’m longing for real too.
Christy, I think it is the longing of us all. Maybe even the way our God creates us. Something to think about š Have a great weekend!
Your post made me smile. Today I had the privilege of meeting with my two Timothy’s. One is now in her mid 30’s, and we’ve had a close relationship for 10 years! She has grown into a Barnabus now. The other is a 20 year old girl I’ve just started meeting with. I try to be real with them.
Betsy, I cannot imagine how blessed these two are to have you in their lives. I am sure you are most real with them! May God continue to use you in the lives of others. And keep being real as there are so many who need to see Him in you. Blessings!
For those who have known Jesus and have God in their hearts, must always reflect sincerity. Been real and show the truth always. Blessings. I’m visiting from #DancewithJesus Link up.
Love, Tayrina
So grateful you stopped here. May we continue to be real with Jesus, with ourselves & with others. We need authenticity more than ever. Blessings!
I , too, thought of the Velveteen Rabbit and long to be real with real friends! Enough of the phoney stuff.
Isn’t it amazing how many thought of The Velveteen Rabbit. Maybe we’re being challenged to become like little children as they truly are so uninhibited. Something to think about. Grateful you stopped & shared!
You know I read this and thought, “I want to be her friend”. I struggle constantly with this same issue of searching for real people. Love the idea of checking oneself for “real-ness” maybe we need to come up with a test. š Thanks for sharing!
You truly have no idea how your comment blessed me. Thank you for wanting to be friends. Your idea of a test had crossed my mind. I actually think the best test is do those around us, and who know us best, think we are real. I have the question. Now to get up the courage to ask it š So glad to have our paths cross!
So true! Me too. š
Love this! And yes, I think our society focuses so much on sorting us into those peer groups that it can be much less intuitive to build those Paul and Timothy relationships. The few I’ve had have meant the world to me and to my walk in faith, though.
I so agree. The relationships which have meant the most to me have been the Paul & Timothy ones as well. And I so pray for God to use me in the same way in the lives of others. We so need to be real with God & with others. Blessings!
It does seem hard for people to be real.
It is hard. It’s scary too, if we’re honest. But we need depth of relationship to grow. May God show us how to be people of authenticity. Grateful you stopped here! Have a wonderful first weekend of spring š
