It all began when my kids were yet small. I wondered what God was thinking when He gave me them to mother. Some days I feared I would make such a mistake they would be scarred for life. And all I desired was for them to pursue God with all their hearts, with all their might, for all the days of their lives.

It was then the question began to cross my mind –

“Are you pursuing Me with all your heart, with all your might, with each of your days?”

And so the change began. I started rising a little earlier than the day demanded in order to read a few Scriptures. Mornings seemed hard for me then. Fifteen minutes was all I could manage at first, as my bed and pillow competed for God’s attention.

But soon the time stretched to a half hour.

There was a beauty to be found in the stillness under the cover of the morning darkness rather than under the bed covers. While my family still slept, I found refuge in my Bible, a devotional book, and a large cup of hot coffee.

David seemed to know and recognize the same beauty in early mornings …

“Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. (Psalm 5:3, NLT)

“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.” (Psalm 143:8,NLT)

See what I mean?

Knowing each day has its own demands and challenges, I have learned to bring them to Him even before I face the day. It is then I can be confident He will lead me, showing me where to walk and how to handle whatever the day delivers to my doorstep. He gives me the strength and wisdom needed when I have none.

How about you? Are you a morning person? Do you think you can become a morning person?

May we start the day off on the right foot and let God put a spring in our step all day!
