Today I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. All of us writing on that same word.
Today’s prompt is …. Surprise.
We could hear the ruckus happening outside before we were even at the windows. Jocelyn and I rushed to see what was going on in the yard and there were birds everywhere.
She was delighted to see them, when I noticed a robin, closest to us very busy at work. I pointed it out to her and told her to keep watching as he was going to surprise her.
He kept pulling and pulling until suddenly a very large worm was pulled up.
Jocelyn squealed with delight and began clapping for the bird, exclaiming, “He did it, he did it!”
And then of course came the words, “I want to see it again!”
Surprise … that discovery which comes unexpected, bringing with it a wonder or astonishment.
I may not forget Jocelyn’s delight any time soon. It has caused me to realize how our God surprises us time and time again …
with a beautiful sky, a puffy cloud, the sound of thunder, a light from a bolt of lightening, the slight hues of color as a tree begins to form buds, the smell of spring, a rainbow, and aromas of spring in the air.
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we think or ask. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21, NLT)
Surprises.
Our God will continually surprise His people down through the ages, forever and ever!
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Grace & Truth .
Just lovely!!
I’m so happy to have me you thru FMF today…I’m your neighbor over at kate’s.
Beautiful blog , beautiful words!
Thank you!
Thank you, Chris. It is such a wonderful linkup for making new friends!
This is so lovely Joanne! I love that verse and this morning it encourages me to know end to remember that God does, indeed, surprise us!
The wonder of it all is how every season holds it share of surprises. Even this morning, in this season of spring, we are experiencing the surprise of snow. Our God is a God full of surprising ways in which He makes Himself known to us. Blessings!
Beautiful, Joanne! I think children are much more likely to delight in and discover surprises. They seem to often take time to notice things we miss when we are busy going to and fro, but sometimes we have a chance to encourage that in them as you did with Jocelyn!
Have a blessed weekend! Happy to be your neighbor today at the #Grace and Truth Linkup.
Pam, you are right. Children have an amazing awareness and awe of life. I am grateful for my grandchildren who pull me back into “childishness” some days. I wouldn’t want to miss the wonder and awe of our God. Blessings!
I’m so glad God surprises us. The wonder he allows is amazing. Happy Friday, friend.
Amen! I love all of the beauty he surprises us with–at first glance, a desert seems dry and harsh–but just wait until the sun sets or rises and the light changes the landscape into something soft and beautiful…hummm…another analogy for life and Light, eh?
Anita, I think you raise yet another good point – no beauty is repeated in exactly the same manner. Each sunrise, sunset, and landscape will be different on any given day. Amazing to think about!
We need surprises and wonder for sure. I also loved the verse you used. Thanks for sharing, Joanne. Blessings to you!
MAri-Anna, we sure do need surprises. It is then that I most often remember … He is God above all things. Blessings today!
Hi Joanne, how have you been?
God Surprises us. Definitely He beats our expectations.
God Bless and Have a nice weekend.
Wonder, delight, astonishment…our God never fails to surprise us with good gifts. This was a sweet story.
Thank you for linking with Grace and Truth last week.
