Raising children is not for the faint of heart. Throw in changing hormones, and raising a girl may have been one of the biggest struggles faced as a mom. No baby childcare book can prepare you for the years ahead fully.

Perhaps this is why this book is so needed.

Instead of being overwhelmed and wringing our hands in worry and anxiety, Teri Lynn Underwood reminds us there is no greater investment we can ever make into the lives of our girls than prayer.

Praying For Girls is not a “how to” book but a “what to” list of areas to diligently cover our girls in prayer during those challenging years. She brings suggested prayers for the areas of Her Identity, Her Heart, Her Mind, Her Relationships, and Her Purpose. Each chapter includes Scriptures and stories to show how the author prayed in her own life for her daughter.

The author recognizes our girls will need to be approached differently so as to teach in an age appropriate manner. Each section includes an activity for little girls, for middle girls, and for big girls. She wisely includes a section which is “Just For Moms” as she surely knows moms need encouragement on those trying days.

The author concludes the book sharing two conclusions:

  • “Parenting is hard.”
  • “Praying is a gift.”

“I have a fun little sign hanging on the gallery wall in my office. It has the popular saying, “All I need is a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus.” I love it because it reminds me of an important truth: I will always need more of what Jesus can do and less of what I can do myself … I can only parent her through the grace and love of Christ.”

So it is for each of us as well. We can only parent, or influence, our girls through His grace and love. And gratefully, He has given us His Word and the gift of prayer to guide and help us.

This book is for every mom and every woman has influence in the lives of girls growing up in this ever changing world, which means this book is for all of us.
