Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Progress.

The word prompt brought to mind a quote I had written down in the back of my Bible:

“The Christian life is the sum total of a thousand little victories one day at a time. The secret of handling the overwhelming is to do it little by little. Remember, “This is the day the Lord has made.” (Ron Hutchcraft)

We want to make progress in our lives. Looking back we can see the progress we have made – completed our education, raised our family, received a promotion at work, purchased a home.

But day by day, progress may not be so evident when we are in the thick of things. All we see in front of us is the papers which need to be written, the dirty diapers, the piles of laundry, or the work yet to done on the home.

Yet progress is made, not only at completion but all along the way. With every step, moment, and victory we are making progress even if it is unseen to our eyes.

Paul in writing to the Philippians, reminds us also, to keep pursuing Jesus with every ounce of determination and strength within us:

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.(Philippians 3:12, NLT)

And he encourages us:

But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.” (verse 16, NLT)

Progress:
We keep our eye on Him and keep moving forward –
one little victory one day at a time.
