In these days when so much is changing in our world and society, how are we to live? What are the truths we are to hold onto?

In his latest book, “Kingdom Values: Character > Chaos“, author Tony Evans shares his thoughts on these very questions. He provides wisdom to help us navigate these unstable days.

In Part One, the book answers the question, “What is truth?” He reminds us:

“Jesus didn’t hold truth up for debate … He is the one who testifies to the truth … Truth can be defined as an absolute standard by which reality is measured … Truth transcends emotions … your feelings don’t determine the truth … Truth does not need your emotions to approve it or validate it … God is truth.” (quotes taken from pages 16, 17, and 23)

Then the author moves onto addressing the attack and absence of truth. He also seeks to direct us to rediscover and return to truth. This returns us to the very beginning – the garden of Eden – where Satan first began to weave his lies and create doubt in the very words of God.

We are to know truth, believe truth, and share the truth in love. We also need to know the role love plays with truth:

“Love does not tolerate all views. Love does not acquiesce to lies. Christians are to love all people, but we are not called to love all ideas.” (from page 85)

The author then turns our focus onto a sermon preached by Jesus – The Sermon on the Mount. Here He encourages us to look to the character and qualities by which Jesus calls us to live.

The author presents each character quality rooted in biblical truths and principles for us to understand that we must “choose to live by the kingdom values outlined for us in the Word of God” (from page 94). They are explained with a clarity which helps us to understand their importance in daily living.

This is a book for here and now, for it is in the ordinary moments of our days that we discover every moment matters, both here and for eternity.
