Last night I went to dinner with a friend. We had some serious, in-depth conversation. We also laughed so hard that our eyes were squirting water. We discussed the issues at hand in our lives & yet also saw the need to balance it all with some humorous moments. We left the restaurant, still laughing, feeling lighter than we had entered & yet nothing had truly changed in either of our lives.
Reflecting on the time spent with my friend, I realized what a gift time spent like that is to our souls. We need people like this in our lives. We need to be this person in the life of another. In Scripture, Paul speaks on the worth of friends of this sort….
Paul made mention of 3 men who offered this type of friendship to him. He writes….Â
“I am happy that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have come. You are not here, but they have filled your place. They have refreshed my spirit and yours. You should recognize the value of people like these.” Â (1 Cor. 16:18 NCV).
There we have it – don’t take people like this for granted. They refresh us.
“Refresh us” means:
- they provide us new vigor & energy
- they stimulate us
- they cheer us up
- they bring us restoration
They are invaluable.
So who is this kind of friend to you? Be sure to recognize them. They are of more worth to you than you may ever realize. More so, let’s be sure to be this friend to others. We all need one another.
