There are days that God shows up in ways that I truly did not expect & surely did not deserve. Those days, He leaves me breathless, my heart full of emotion & my mouth filled with praise. Today is one of those days…..
I will admit, I have had some big requests of Him lately. Big in my estimation but then I am human so I am limited, I am finite. I have been trying to keep my focus on the TRUTH that He is God, therefore, He is bigger than I think He is, He is able to do so much more than I think He can do & He has no limits. None. Some days have been easier than others to maintain that focus & I will readily admit that as well.
What amazes me is that He knows how difficult it is some days to maintain the right perspective of Him. He is so willing to even help me with that by showing up unexpectedly.
Enter…..the mushrooms……
Saturday I noticed something growing underneath my pine tree. Something that I had not planted. Something that was not supposed to be growing there. Something that was utterly beautiful because it was different than one would expect.
Under my pine tree was a group of mushrooms.
They were beautiful. They were not the mushrooms like one would buy in a supermarket. They were not brown. They were beautiful shades of orange & yellow. They were different sizes. Amazingly, they were different shapes. When I went under the tree to view them up close, I felt like I was entering into a fantasy world like one might find in a Disney movie. They were stunning. This is what I saw….
Can you see the varied hues & shapes they grew in? There were so many of them. They had grown where they would be least expected. They so shouted of a Creator who would place them there for me to be awed by & marvel at.
As I came in the house to look at my pictures, Scriptures immediately began going through my mind. They were Scriptures that address what we can experience when we are in those desert or wilderness times in our lives. God promises us that in our wilderness, He is at work:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV).Â
In those very times & areas of our lives that we feel like we are in the middle of nothingness & waste, He is causing something to happen in our lives. From that barrenness, He is forcing something to spring up. He makes a way where there seemed to be no way. He creates streams where there was drought.
Scripture tells us that the Spirit will be poured out on us and:Â
“… the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest”                      (Isaiah 32:15 NIV).Â
He causes continued growth & fruit to come forth in our lives. That is His promise.
“Blind eyes will be opened, deaf ears unstopped, Lame men and women will leap like deer, the voiceless break into song. Springs of water will burst out in the wilderness, streams flow in the desert.” (Isaiah 35:5 The Message).
What is He telling us?
That which we were not expecting, not even looking for will happen.
The blind will see
        The deaf hear
                 The lame walk
                       The voiceless will sing
Water will spring forth where there was no water
Streams will flow in the desert.
It’s kind of like my mushroom experience. We will find beauty where we least expected it. We will find growth where there should be none. We will bear fruit in our lives when we did not plant. When there seemed to be no way, He made the way. He caused it to happen.
Why? Why will He do this for us?”
“I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for Myself THAT they may proclaim my praise.”                     (Isaiah 43:20, 21 NIV).
Look for the mushrooms in life. And when you find them? Be sure to give Him the praise that He alone is so deserving to receive.
