Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Time.
These days we are living are unlike any I would have imagined. So much is shifting and changing, making everything feel so unsure and unstable.
Scripture tells me He has appointed both the place and the time for each of us to live (Acts 17:26). Those words cause me to accept that He has ordained for me to live in the middle of a pandemic, in a most divisive time, and with political unrest.
Looking at the words which are now on my screen brings the words of the psalmist to mind:
“But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, “You are my God. â€My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness.”
(Psalm 31:14-16, NASB)
David reminds me that all the circumstances of my life are under God’s sovereign control. The events He permits are all filtered through His lovingkindness and require me to trust Him in all things, at all times.
All of our lives are being orchestrated by God who holds the time and the timing of every occurrence in our days. In this, we can find rest and peace in trusting Him.

Today I am joining …
inspirational writing, Joanne 🙂
I love this—both the idea for posting and the post itself. It speaks so much about God’s sovereignty—a truth of who He is that we so need to cling to in these days and every day.
It is a truth I have been holding onto in this last year of uncertainty. This past week, it was a daily reminder I told myself as I watch the nightly news.
amen! Praise God He is the one in control, even when it seems like madness surrounds us.
It is easy for me to remember this when things are peaceful, in times like this past week, it was a daily reminder.
Amen, such a good word for this season. I needed to be reminded of that Scripture today. Truly, all of our times belong to HIM, and are held in His hand. Thank you for this encouragement.
We need to remind and encourage one another of these truths often. God has never left His throne and is over all that occurs in our lives and in the world.
I have to remind myself of this so often! Especially during these wild, weird times we’re in. This scripture goes together so well with Esther’s “such a time as this”: God knew exactly what sort of times we’d participate in, and He equipped us for it! So grateful that we can rest in that.
Ellie, it is most important to remind ourselves when things are so unstable. May we not only remember God’s sovereignty, but also that He has a plan and has invited us to join Him in that plan. Grateful you reminded me of Esther!
We are here. For such a time as this. Our Esther moment. #18
May we be faithful to trust Him in all things, at all times.
The storm will come and shake the ground,
and then into time’s mist will past,
but whatface , then, will we have found
on gazing in the looking-glass?
Will we find courage and resolve,
a trusting equanimity,
or will intentions fade, devolve
to give fear final victory?
We can hope, must hope to be
the better versions of ourselves,
but if not, we cannot flee
from what we’ve taken from dark shelves,
an dmust face, at point of knife
the demons that we’ve brought to life.
Andrew, your poem brought to mind Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble” and He is still sitting on His throne in complete control and power over this world. May we trust Him at all times for He holds the plan in His hands.
More and more I am made aware that we are all specifically placed in our places in time by a sovereign God. This was beautiful. May the Lord bless and keep you. Visiting from FMF, #28
It’s such a simple truth and yet, we struggle so. May the Lord keep us focused on Him.
So true. God is in control visiting from fmf #6
There’s nothing more comforting than God’s sovereignty. My mentor always says, God is always on time. We are the ones with fast watches! (:
Amen. I love that quote from your mentor, Sue!
Jo
Thank you for your timely article. It makes me think about the persecution of the young church in Bible times and how they lived with faith and grace – the times were very hard. God gave them the strength just as He does to us today. He is totally trustworthy.
Mare
Mare, just today I reminded someone that we are not the first generation to face difficulties. May we be faithful to God in these times and leave a godly example for those who follow us. He will give us all we need as we take each step with Him.
Amen Joanne, Thank you for such a lovely post. Very insightful.
