At times, I remember my word on a daily basis. This month of July, I seem to have forgotten to be on the lookout for it.
So when it shows up in the most unexpected of ways, it really does bring excitement and delight. It was a tweet by Ray Ortlund (@rayortlund) that stopped me one morning this past week. It was a video he shared of a baby elephant, who in learning to walk, kept stumbling down face first.
And just like that, I am reminded “prevail” means strength and we are to persevere in tribulation.
It may not be easy, or enjoyable, but He enables us to prevail (persevere), as He comes alongside of us.
This little elephant has so encouraged me this week as he brought two verses to mind as he pulled himself up and took his next step.
“‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ “ (Isaiah 41:10, NASB)
“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4, NASB)
As we prevail in Him,
He holds onto us,
making us perfect and complete,
lacking in nothing.
Today I am joining … One Word 2021 Linkup .
I love how our words can show up anywhere, even in tweets about baby elephants. 🙂
“As we prevail in Him, He holds onto us.” Yes! Thanks for linking up, Joanne!
Lisa, I sat watching that little guy over and over. Sheer determination to get back up and walk. It spoke so deeply. It is amazing and quite special how the Lord teaches us about our individual words in the most unique manner. I love this linkup and reading about the varied journeys.
I saw that tweet on Twitter. What an encouragement! We all fall and stumble, but the key is getting back up in reliance on God. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Christina Rossetti: “A fall is a signal not to lie wallowing, but to rise.”
Barbara, that little guy kept stumbling and hitting his little trunk. But oh the determination to get back up and walk. And I love the quote you shared! Thank you!
