Spring had come. Or so we thought.
We were able to enjoy a few days playing in the yard, soaking up the sunshine. Out came the hula hoops, soccer balls, and the basket of collected rocks. Jocelyn climbed, ran, slid down the slide, and went on the swings.
She was convinced, “Winter is never again. It is spring!”
And then the spring snow storm came last week. She watched from the family room windows, reporting to me of the progress of snow accumulation.
“Mimi, the grass is disappearing!”
Her voice revealed the increase of panic that she would not be able to play outside in the yard for a bit. All day, she repeatedly checked out the windows, obsessed with the snow which continued to cover the grass.
When she woke from her afternoon nap, she ran to the windows and exclaimed, “Your grass is all gone!” There was no telling her otherwise as the disappointment settled over her.
There have been many times in my life, I have been much like Jocelyn. My eyes have seen only what they wanted to see. No matter the explanation given, my understanding was skewed by what I saw. I could not see what lie hidden by the obvious. I was so busy “seeing”, I could not further think through a situation.
Many times, we must dig deeply to see and understand that which is immediately hidden. Time and patience often bring revelation.
Ears to hear and eyes to see – both are gifts from the Lord.
(Proverbs 20:12, NLT)
And so today I pray … Lord, help my grandchildren to see clearly Your plan for their lives. Bless them with eyes to see You and ears to hear You. Help them not to lean on their own understanding but to grow in the wisdom You impart to their lives. May they develop patience to wait on You to guide them each day. We thank You today for the gifts of hearing and seeing You. With grateful hearts we pray. Amen.
Today I am joining … #SmallWonder and Inspire Me Monday .
Amen! I am praying the same thing for my own children. Wishing you and your family a blessed week!
How precious: “Your grass is all gone!” 🙂 What fun you must be having with those precious grandkids, Joanne! And what a blessing you are to them and to us in sharing these lessons.
I loved the warm weather as a child after cold winters! How true we want to see what we want, not be present with what is..no wonder Jesus said we need to be like little children, following Him..we’d be lost wanting things our own way! Lovely lesson here! Visiting today from #smallwonder!
Kathy, I so appreciated your thoughts. I truly cherish the lessons I am learning from my granddaughters. Thank you for sharing.
I needed this analogy! There was something that woke me in the night and filled me with anxiety, all I could see was the snow. I forgot the reality that lies beneath, which is God’s everlasting arms, His faithfulness, His love and care for me.
It is amazing how something small can make things click in our minds and bring us to the truth of God’s faithfulness and care. May He continue to give you His peace.
what a sweet reminder for all of us to not let our ‘sight’ get in the way of what God wants us to know!
