In talking with His disciples, Christ promises:
- they will never be alone.
- the Spirit of truth will indwell them.
- the Holy Spirit will teach them all things and will remind them of everything that He has said to them.
You can read for yourself in John 14:15-26. These were tremendous promises which I am sure this unique group of men appreciated.
Life remained hard for this band of Christ’s followers. They all endured persecution. All, except John, faced the death of a martyr. John suffered through exile and torture. He may have even questioned why he was left to live without the very men who were closest to him.
Yet each one remained faithful believers in Christ, fulfilling the purposes to which they were called.
Let’s fast forward in time …
There are times that we each feel that the world is against us. That we have been forgotten. That we are on our own. Alone.
There are times that our spirits feel wounded and broken. Sometimes we are just glad to have made it through yet another day.
It is on those days we must remind ourselves that we have everything we need right inside of us. The very same promises that Christ gave His disciples have been given to us.
“Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory.â€
(Ephesians 1:13b-14 NIV).
The day that we accepted Christ, the Holy Spirit indwelt our person. We now house that same Spirit as the disciples did years ago. The same Promise now resides inside of us that was inside of each of them. We have been sealed, His Spirit remains with us. Where we go, He now goes.
Do we really think about what that truly means each day? Do we rely on Him as heavily as we can and should?
His Spirit will:
guide us,
remind of His love for us,
remove doubt and fears,
infuse us with strength to face the day’s challenges,
and give grace and peace to our frazzled minds.
His Spirit is all that we need and will give us whatever it is that we need. He is within us.
May we rely on Him today.
P.S. Thank you to Patti Gardner, who mentioned this song in her comments. It is beautiful! Thank you for sharing it as I had never heard it before.
This is a revised version of an earlier post.
Today I am joining … Thought Provoking Thursday and Grace Moments .
“It is on those days we must remind ourselves that we have everything we need right inside of us.”
Your words remind me of that great Jeremy Camp song “Same Power.” We don’t always remember, but that same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in each believer.
Visiting from Grace Moments.
Blessings to you,

Thank you so much for sharing about the song. It is beautiful! I had never heard it before so I greatly appreciated you mentioning it. I edited my post to include it 🙂 So glad you stopped here today! Blessings!
This is just astounding good news, almost too good to be true! “We now house that same Spirit as the disciples did years ago.” But I believe it. Thanks, Joanne!
What an awesome reminder! And how I need it today!
I’m also reminded of 2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” We have everything we need to live a godly life.
Deep breath. Okay.
Amen, Joanne
(and I love Jeremy Camp. Have seen him live a couple of times.)
Yes, we have an amazing gift: the Holy Spirit. And the precious promises of our faithful God. Praising Him along with you today!
I love that verse in Ephesians. I remember when I found it for the first time and it was like a literal treasure that I wanted to hold onto and keep before me. I wrote it down on a note card which I put in my purse to help me remember and memorize it.
Sometimes it is so easy to forget what people gave up to follow Jesus. Some literally gave all… and did it with complete awareness that they wanted nothing less.
I can’t say my faith is always so selfless, but I am grateful he is continually faithful.
Thanks for sharing this at the #GraceMoments Link up Joanne!
Blessings,
Dawn
Dawn, like you, I am so grateful He is continually faithful. I want to remember that He is within me, supplying me what is needed for each day. It is always good to join you. Blessings!
