Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is: Honor.

When our grandchildren were small, my mom when asking them to do something would add, “Scout’s honor?” They would raise their little fingers in the scout’s honor position and respond, “Scout’s honor!”

They knew they had made a promise to do something and would follow through.

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.” (James 5:12, NASB)

Our word should be our word. Let’s not make promises that we cannot keep. Better yet, that we know we have no intentions of keeping.

There is another One Whose “Yes” is yes. God, in His Word, has made many promises to His people, all of which He will keep.

For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20, NASB)

God promised a Savior from the beginning, and in His time, He fulfilled this promise. In this, we see the faithfulness of God to His promises.

May I remember that His Word is His Word.
God will not default on His promises.
We can rest in that. He will fulfill His promises to us – in His time, in His way.
