Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is: Path.
Life often takes us on paths not yet traveled. At times they are paths we would not have opted to go on our own.
“Your way was in the sea, And Your paths in the mighty waters, And Your footprints may not be known.” (Psalm 77:19, NASB)
Another versions words it this way:
“Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters – a pathway no one knew was there!” (NLT)
I try to imagine what it had to be like the day God parted the waters of the Red Sea for His people and made a path.
Did the ground tremble and quake as God’s power pushed the waters apart, forming a wall on either side the dry ground? Was the sound like that of a roar?
The path the Israelites took that day of deliverance was one they had never walked before. It was a deliverance unprecedented and they had to trust God.
He led them much the way a shepherd would lead his flock – protecting them, guiding them powerfully yet gently.
And the reminder sits before me, printed on the pages in black and white for me to remember and hold onto. This same God, my God, worked mightily in the past, leading through new paths.
He will never lead me where He has not gone before me.
Even when His footprints are not seen,
He is marking my path.
** As I continued thinking on Psalm 77:19, this song came to mind. So I edited and added after the five minutes 🙂

Today I may be joining: Five Minute Friday .
Ok, Moses, are you kiddin’?
Yeah, this ain’t a place to be,
but you say our path is hidden
‘neath the waves of the Red Sea?
I know that Pharaoh’s on the loose
and he wants to make us slaves,
but this is now the road you choose,
a path between these standing waves?
Ok, all right, we may as well
take this muddy misty slog,
and anyway, what tales we’ll tell
on the way to synagogue
about Pharaoh being beclowned
when his army all got drowned.
“He is marking my path”. What a beautiful reminder and encouragement! Thank you for sharing.
