{{Today I am linked with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it works…. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. Equals a great time.}}
Today’s word …. True.
There are times in which I think that because I have read it, it is true. Or because someone I know is telling me something, it is true. Or because it is on the internet, it is true. But I think the one that scares me most is when I think that because it is in my thoughts, in MY head, well surely then, it has to be true.
But then, that is not necessarily true either.
My thoughts can go places they should not. My mind can be vividly and wildly active and my thoughts be what Scripture calls, “vain imaginings.” I am wondering if they are called that because it is vain to even think we are right all the time. Or are they vain because if He is not the originator or the center of my thoughts, they are nothing but ineffectual. Without any significance at all. Bearing no fruit.
Scripture tells me to think on whatever is true ….
And there are days in which that means I must take my own thoughts captive. Stop them dead in their tracks. Let them go no further. And begin to think on the only words that are true.
For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. (Psalm 33:4, NIV)
Yes, when I open the cover and turn the pages of my Bible, His Word spoken to me, it is then that I find the only words that are true.

Lovely! Love truth!! So beautiful today to dwell on the truth of His Word! Thank you for the encouragement. ♥ Blessed weekend friend!
The words “vain imaginings” really struck me. I’ve wasted lots of time imagining lots of useless stuff-what I wish I said, what I wish someone else said or did, having angry conversations in my head with people I won’t confront. None of that was “true.” Thanks for your focus on the word instead!
Yes, taking our own thoughts captive and clinging to His truth! Beautiful post, Joanne!
That’s a great point! I’ve been in that place a number of times, like right now, for real. I’ve liked your post with our WordPress ministry blog account. I’m the author behind Amanda’s Books and More and the WordPress one is Light and Life Bible Ministries and the blog’s name is Real Church Life. My husband does most of the posting on that site. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a sweet comment!
Think on what is true. I need to be reminded frequently. Thanks.
This is a great post. We can become like leaves in the wind swept along by every “truth” we read or hear. You’re so right in identifying that we tend to believe whatever we read – the internet is the great authority! And listening to our inner voice can be misleading too if we give it too much credence. The truth we can measure everything by is held in the Bible and it is our plumb line in life.
Thanks for sharing at Essential Fridays.

We were on the same page about True this week. Love the verses in Phil. 4 about whatever is true, noble, lovely, etc. Thanks for encouraging us all to compare everything we hear to the truth found in God’s word.
