** This is a repost of a post from last summer. ..with a few changes.
For the last three years, Sophia has swung on this:
She has enjoyed & loved it. As she swings, we play, “I Spy With My Little Eyes”. Last week Poppy & I bought her this:
She loved it & has repeatedly told us that she loves her playground.
This morning I watched her for a few hours. We played on the swingset for quite some time & then she asked…
“Mimi, can we go swing on the red swing?”
Are you serious? We bought the new swing set as she had grown too big for the red swing. Yet this is where we returned so we could play, “I Spy”.
I have thought about this all afternoon.
Am I really that different from Sophia? Probably not.
How often do I default back to that which is comfortable, known & safe?
How often have I excused myself by saying,
“It is just the way I am.”
“It’s the way it has always been.”
“That will never change.”
“It is what I am comfortable with.”
How grateful I am that God does indeed change me. I am grateful that even when I do default to old ways, He gives me opportunity to start anew. Habits may die hard but in & through Christ, they can DIE! And that is the point. We can change.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV).

Visiting from Sits Saturday Sharefest! Great story and message. I found it very reassuring that change is possible. Just what needed to hear,
Thank you for the encouragement. Always fun to have a new friend. Have a great week!
I’m visiting from Barbie’s. I just read your comment at her blog and loved every word of it. And, I so relate to your post, especially this encouraging reminder: Habits may die hard but in & through Christ, they can DIE! And that is the point. We can change. Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for the visit. And the encouragement. Have a great week!
I love this! So often I {almost} revert to old habits and old ways of telling myself I’m fixed in a certain way, but praise God, He is working on me! I feel as if he’s molding and reshaping me a lot. What a blessing indeed! Visiting from The Weekend Brew.
May we not get discouraged but remind ourselves that it is a lifelong process. So glad that you visited me! Have a great week!
In life so much changes and yet we cling to those most cherished memories. I love both feelings. When I am new and stretching my legs into a new concept, I feel alive and refreshed – vitalized and timeless; all amazing feelings in their own right. But when I have something old such as a special family holiday tradition or meal, I cling to that for the warmth and comfort it brings. Habits deserve a good scrubbing sometimes, that’s for sure – but maybe SOME of them will get to last for a bit longer 😉
Visiting from SITS 🙂

It is true that there are family traditions that can be so good & bring comfort. May we pray for the wisdom to let Him change what needs to be changed & enjoy the ones meant to linger. Have a great week!
Joanne, I really struggle with change… this was for me. Thanks
Lyli – Change is hard. We truly can become such creatures of habit, of the comfortable. May God make change easier for you. And for me 🙂 So glad that you stopped here.
Have a great week!
Joanne
