This morning, while it was still dark out and the house was very quiet, I watched a short 11 minute documentary on youtube titled, Boatlift. It is narrated by Tom Hanks and tells the untold story of an event that took place on 9/11. Having been born and raised in the Bronx and worked in Manhattan for several years until I was married and moved to Boston, this short clip moved me to tears. It also was most inspiring.
As I watched it, my mind was racing of conversations over the last week of situations that seemed hopeless or unchanging. I thought of times in my own life where I simply came to the end of myself ….. the end of bargaining with God, pleading with God, trying to control or change or manipulate a situation. You know the end I am speaking of – the end where you simply die to yourself and surrender it all to God. You finally come to the point that He is all you got.
Seeing the hanging walkie-talkie receiver in this video made me think of this verse:
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.(Jer. 29:13)
He wants us to seek Him, not for what He can give us, not for what He can do for us. He wants us to want Him for Him. For relationship with Him. It is like being in prison and being given that one phone call and He is the one call you choose. When we finally acknowledge that He is the only one that can do anything for us.
As you watch this video and the beautiful rescue that took place that fateful day, may you think of how God desires to come to our rescue when there seems to be no way out, no way off or no other answer. May you then remember:
If you look for Him wholeheartedly, you will find Him.

Today I am joining … Tell Me A Story and Unite and Soli Deo Gloria and Titus 2sday and Teach Me Tues. and Women Helping Women and Titus 2 Tues. .
I’m so glad I came over today from “Tell Me a True Story.” As I begin my day frustrated by the events of yesterday, this is just the reminder I needed!
Grateful that it spoke to you. Praying that you have a good week!
Dear Joanne
The saying goes that when you open the door of a bird cage, you give the bird freedom to fly away which it most probably will. But when it comes back to you, you know it was its own choice. The same with God. He longs for us to love Him, because of Himself and nothing else!
Blessings XX
Mia
Great analogy, Mia! Thank you for adding that thought!
I’ve missed you dear friend and needed this today. {Hugs} to you.
And right back at you {{Hugs!!!}}
I’ve been in that spot a lot recently – coming to the end of myself and realizing that God is all I’ve got. It’s a good place to land. Thanks for stopping by my site and sharing the verse in Hebrews with me. It really encouraged me this morning!
Grateful that you found encouragement. He will always come to your rescue!
Oh, I am so glad I watched this. Especially the end “If you want to do something in life, then do it.” It pays to be brave, to know that even if I can’t do it, my God can help be more than I am.
Wasn’t that Captain something! May God deposit a little “heroism” in each of us to do some little things for Him this week.
Wow
Thank you for this. What a fabulous story of courage, God’s Spirit and the love of people for one another.
Blessings,
Janis
PS Would you share with Sunday Stillness – this says so much.
Janis
Thank you for asking, I will 🙂
Janis –
It truly was an amazing story. May we dig deep & reach out to others this week.
Blessings,
Joanne
Thank you for this awesome reminder to “Do what you gotta do,” for us here at “tell Me a Story. Lest we forget 9/11 we must remember the heros of everyday people who gave of their time and talents to rescue thousand of these stranded citizens. Oft times we feel stranded but God comes to our rescue and saves us giving us his strength and courage to go forward.
Hazel – Well said! So glad that you commented. We may “feel” stranded, and at times the enemy would have us believing it, but He never leaves us.
