I opened my devotional and the page is titled, “Sorrow”.

To be honest, I just wanted to flip to another page, maybe read a different thought. I wanted something encouraging and uplifting.

When I think of sorrow, I think of death. I wanted to think of life, breathing, and growing.

Here’s what I learned … Sorrow is not solely related to death.

“Sorrow” as defined by dictionary.com, is “distress caused by loss, affliction, or disappointment.”

I thought back over the last few months, and honestly, we’ve experienced a little of each of those things. If I said it once, I felt it twice, no break was being had on “sorrow”.

Distress is a funny thing. It leaves you feeling mangled; a bit disfigured or marred. It crushes hope right out of your lungs if you but give it the chance.

So here’s the thing we must remember … it is not going to be forever.

“Sadness tends to duplicate itself along the timeline – convincing you that you will always be unhappy.”(from Jesus Lives by Sarah Young, page 94)

It’s a lie, people. We may be unhappy now, in this moment, but the thing is – it will pass. We don’t want to be duplicating unhappiness. We want that His joy be in our lives, and that be what is duplicated, again and again. And that it would be joy to the full! I love how John 10:10 in the NLT says it this way, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

He has intentions for each of our lives which He is working towards. He has a desired result He is molding each of our lives to fulfill.

And why would that be?

“Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God.” (Psalm 71:22, NLT)

Today may we remember His faithfulness. And remember He is faithful.

Things do not always make sense in the immediate moment. Even when a box of puzzle pieces is dumped out on the floor, it becomes a beautiful picture – one piece at a time. It is not going to be forever …

“Weeping may last through the night; but joy comes with the morning.”
(Psalm 30:5, NLT)

 Hold on.

Morning is coming!
