“If we don’t believe the things we put on our agendas will come true for us, then there’s no hope for us … We’ve got to believe in our beautiful impossible blueprints.”
(Doris Lessing, The Golden Notebook)

Agendas, goals, resolutions, plans – all words we toss around at the beginning of each new year.

A blueprint, as defined by dictionary.com is ” a detailed outline; a plan of action.”

I will admit, I love an outline. Tell me what to do, how to proceed in doing it and I am on it. However, I do not want to have to come up with the outline myself which is why the quote resonated so deeply. The words reminded me that I am not the one holding the plans …

  • “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.” (Ephesians 1:11, NIV)
  • “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” (Psalm 139:16, NLT)

God is sovereign and at work in the world, and in our lives. As we trust Him, obey His Word, and follow His lead, He is working out all the events in our lives according to His plan and for His purposes.

We don’t always get it right, at times, we even stray. Yet it is by His grace that He brings us back, sets us on track, and covers us with His grace.

In the dark stillness of this early morning, His truth pervaded my soul as it fell fresh …

Every day.
Every moment.
May we believe in our beautiful impossible blueprints.
