The song had been weaving its way through my thoughts for about a week. Funny how old songs have a way of doing that now and then.

It had been an easy winter up to recently, the snow seeming to come steadily over the last week. Every day there was an accumulation requiring the driveway, walks, and steps to be cleared. My husband was exhausted and achy from it all and had headed to bed early. I stayed up to watch some Island Getaways on HGTV and then the news.

Shutting all the lights off to head to bed, I looked out the windows which face the woods. I watched in awe as the tree from the neighbor’s yard, ladened with snow, began to slowly and gently bed over. The snow clung to the branches with hardly any falling off as the branches finally touched the ground, forming an umbrella of sorts. It was stunning to see the creativity and magnificent beauty in my own yard.

And then it began to “preach” (and here we can cue in the song I had been hearing in my head) ….

“We fall down. We lay our crowns, at the feet of Jesus.”

This morning I woke to see the tree yet hung over. I grabbed my camera to take pictures because, who knows the next time a tree will preach me a message.

“Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care.” (Psalm 95:6-7, NLT)

All the earth, everything created including us His people, owe their very existence to Him. Bowing down before God is such a humble way to acknowledge His Presence. “Bow down” refers to the attitude of our heart, not necessarily a posture. Our hearts are to be rendered in adoration to our God, for He is our God – mighty, enthroned, ruling.

And yet, He tenderly cares for us, the sheep under His care. We are the very ones He watches.

It is only as we take a proper posture in worship before Him,
bowed down low,
that we are able to catch a small glimpse of God in His glory.
