“Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again.” (John 6:35, NLT)

It had been a few days of reflecting on the above verse when the book arrived in my mailbox.

Bible & Breakfast, by Asheritah Ciuciu, leads its readers to 31 mornings with Jesus. It is more than a devotional as it helps us to develop a habit – a habit of growing a daily Bible reading while also enjoying a healthy breakfast.

This is a beautiful hardcover book with thirty one devotional readings which also include thirty one recipes. It is a book to feed your soul and your body. The author explains:

“Each day, you’ll find a recipe for one of my favorite breakfast ideas, a short spiritual “Snack” for those mornings you’re in a rush, and an inductive Bible study “FEAST” for when you can linger at the table with God’s Word.”

The book is a delightful combination of devotional and cookbook. The photos are make each breakfast look mouth-watering, an encouragement to try each one.

The readings are a meal for the soul – bringing encouragement and hope for the day. Pressure is alleviated as the choice is there for us each day – snack or feast. Either way, you will ingest God’s Word and be fed with thoughts like these:

  • “When we surrender to Jesus and allow Him to lead, He bears fruit in us, not only transforming our life but drawing others to Himself through our transformation.” (page 46)
  • “We need to join God in what He’s doing, not expect Him to approve of what we’re independently doing … He invites us to work in dependence on Him, not independent of Him.” (page 135)
  • “Before our toes touch the ground, before our thumbs scroll the news, before we’re overwhelmed with out to-dos, let us boldly declare God’s lovingkindness.” (page 202)

You’ll find complete recipes for baked cheesy polenta, make ahead breafast burritos, overnight eggy breakfast casserole, creamy cream of wheat, morning glory muffins, and many more sure to fill hungry bellies each morning.

The combination of devotional and cookbook, wrapped in a beautiful hard cover with photos throughout, makes this a perfect gift for any occasion.

“Take one day at a time,
and just open your Bible while you eat breakfast.”
