Every now and then, something new and very different from our ordinary, and also very exciting happens in our family. A few weeks ago, our family had some new additions. Allow me to introduce you to Artie and Pepper…..
Yes, they are our two society finches and social they are! Naturally discussion began, almost immediately, as to whether they were a boy and a girl or two of the same, which the response was always the same, “There was no way for PetSmart to tell us.” And so there were two of us, whom I will leave nameless so as to protect the guilty, hoping that there would soon be activity in the nest. And there was some, whom I will leave nameless to protect the panic stricken ones, who were hoping that they were both males.
It was not long until the “hopefuls” got their wishes and I received this photo Saturday…..
Yes, if you look closely, you will see three (!!!!) little eggs!!!!! And the texting began as the excitement built up for some of us and the panic set in for others. And then last night, I received this photo…..
Look even more closely, as there are now four little eggs!!! The texting began going wild. Google was used and abused as we researched to find answers to all our questions, which by the way, were many. And the excitement is now over the top.
I have gone back to look at these photos as I am in total wonder. It is amazing to me at the creativity of our God and the manner in which He chooses to create and recreate. I am humbled to think of all the varied ways in which He chooses to display Himself to us, His created, so that we come to know Him a little bit more deeply.
As I have looked at those eggs, I cannot help but marvel at a God, my God, Who chooses to work in our lives so as to bring excitement and joy and delight. And why? Just so we can experience His work in our lives. And so these small tokens of His grace in the life of our family have come to represent more to us:
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
Or in the NLT …. “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
Or in The Message … “God can do anything, you know – far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams. He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.”
We can’t think it, dream it, imagine it, guess it, or request it. He wants to do more, immeasurably more, infinitely more, far more than our wildest dreams. All because He loves us and His desire is to work within our lives to delight us. And to bring Him glory.
And there are times He uses two finches to speak deeply into our lives.
