{{Today is Friday!!! It is the day I link with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it works…. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. We all write on the same word.}}
Today the word is …. mighty.
As soon as I saw the word prompt, the theme song began going through my head. I could see the image of one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid …. Mighty Mouse. The thing with him was that whenever he was on his way to save, the song played. He sang as he flew. The words became ingrained (who knew until today?) …
We’re not worrying at all
We’re just listening for his call
“Here I come to save the day!”
That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way!
My kids are going to cringe when they see this. But here’s the thing…..
We all need someone who is mighty to save on those days ….
- when the bills pile high and the money pile is down
- when the heat is cranking and the oil prices are high
- when your heart is breaking and you have no idea how you will recover
- when THE diagnosis comes in and it starts with a big “C”
- when the task before us is daunting or flat out, impossible
- when you’re unemployed, AGAIN
- when your spouse walks out
We all face days at some point which cause us to realize we need someone who is mighty because we are not. This morning I realized, I know this verse well, probably too well. Most times when I share it or quote it or read it, I concentrate on God delighting and singing and rejoicing over me. I do not think that will ever occur again as today I read it differently:
The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
(Zephaniah 3:17, NIV)
I am grateful for the cartoon character today, who immediately came to mind, theme song and all 🙂
No matter what we are facing today or in the days ahead, may we not worry at all. May we listen for His call and to His Word. May we remember and hold onto this truth ….
He is mighty to save.
Today I am joining with … Five Minute Friday and Fellowship Fri. and Faith Filled Fri. and Essential Fri. and Fri. Flash Blog and Beauty Observed and Everyday Jesus and Friendship Fri. and No Rules Blog Party .
Hello. 🙂 this is my First time doing FMF. Praise God for being The Mighty One! Thankyou for your post and may our mighty God hold you in his hand today.
Welcome to FMF! It is a great linkup! Thank you for visiting with me. I am most grateful for our mighty God who truly does hold us in His hands each & every day! Hope to see you next Friday 🙂 Have a great weekend!
That is an awesome thought! God is mighty, ready to swing into action to save us. He is pictured as the war leader of Israel so many times, with hosts of Angels as his beck and call. He can certainly rescue me!
Helene, thanks for reminding me that He did war with His host of angels for the Israelites. And so, He also wars for each one of us!
After I posted my FMF I noticed that you also had Mighty Mouse as your icon and had to rush over and read your post. Tooooo Funny. I thought I was the only person in the world that sang the Mighty Mouse song whenever I see or think the word Mighty. Thank you for sharing.
I went back to the linkup to see your image. Too funny! Nice to know I am not the only one with such a quirky mind 🙂 But most grateful we both have the same mighty God!
Some of my favorite praise and worship songs are about how mighty God is–how He can do anything so we never have to worry. I didn’t think about including Mighty Mouse in with this list though 🙂
🙂 I was also surprised there was someone else who thought of Mighty Mouse when she saw the word prompt. Too funny. May we remember our God is mighty no matter which song we are singing. So glad you visited me!
hi joanne, i love the way you wrote about mighty mouse:) very clever! you should add your voice to fellowship friday. i think you would enjoy the people you meet there. you write one post and link it to two places. it is a smaller group but a very nice, fun one.
julie is the new owner of the blog and is doing some fun things with it…as well as teaching us how to be better bloggers:)
i see you have posted to my blog b/f but this doesn’t look familiar. did you recently change the look of your blog? just wondered:) i like it.
Martha, thank you for the invite. I have been participating in the Fellowship Friday linkup for some time. Julie is doing a wonderful job with the site! I changed the look of my blog in the fall, I think. I am glad that you like it! Thank you. Thank you for visiting & taking the time to share with me. Have a great weekend!
My boys now cringe when I sing any song – but your song is worth singing! He is Mighty to Save – no matter how big the challenge! Thanks for sharing your memories – and your song!
May we keep singing. They may cringe at the sound of our voices but I bet they will find themselves singing the same song at some point 🙂
Your posts always make me smile, Joanne. Seriously. So glad our God is very mighty– especially in our not-so-mighty moments. Blessings to you! And thanks for linking up with #EverydayJesus
I am so grateful to know my posts bring a smile. And like you, I am most grateful I do not need to be mighty for He is all sufficient & more than able. Thank you for hosting the linkup & for sharing with me. Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, how I remember “Mighty Mouse” and it was one of my favorite cartoons. I was a child in the fifties. I love how you brought out how great our God is and that He is MIGHTY to SAVE no matter what is going on in our lives or in our loved ones lives. This also brings to mind “EmmanueL – God with us, Wonderful, Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Thank you for reminding me of Him. God bless you and yours.
