For much of my life, I had better than 20/20 vision. Reading glasses entered my life at some point. And then … mono vision. I now wear contacts, with two different strengths, enabling my right eye to be able to read and see up close; my left to see in the distance. When it all works, I love it.

But I have a problem at times.

Driving at night is difficult with my contacts. I lose my ability to distinguish the road. Oncoming headlights create blurred vision. Unless I am very familiar with the road, I remove my contacts and use glasses when I am driving.

It is then I can breathe easy, able to drive with confidence.

Sometimes life is just like this. I can look through an emotional lens rather than keep my perspective based upon truth. And when I do, all I see is blur.

I see the mess. The imperfections. The failures. The hopelessness.

Not only in myself but in others too.

Situations become difficult to navigate as I cannot see my way through to the other side. I cannot see how things will work out or anything good come of it.

So what does one do?

Our perspective must be maintained. Our vision must be kept clear at all times. We hold onto faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Faith causes us to hope for that which our eyes cannot yet see. Faith keeps our vision clear.

“Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.” (Psalm 119:18, NLT)

It is then all obstacles will be gone.

We see clearly.
