And the word is ….. Belong.
We all want to belong. I cannot help but wonder if this is not the longing of our heart from the time we make our arrival into this world. Think about it …
For nine months, we belonged right where we were. We had no place to go. All our needs were met in the very place we were. Snug and secure, we had everything we would need.
And then we are born.
For the rest of our days, we will always have choices and options. Our needs can be met in more ways than we can shake a stick. And yet, no matter where we may go, we often still feel like the proverbial square peg trying to fit in the round hole.
Until we realize …
You have made us for yourself, O Lord,
and our heart is restless until it rests in you.(St. Augustine)
It is only when we come to Him that we find the very place in which we belong because we belong to Him ….
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God … ” (1 Peter 2:9a, NIV)
