Iโm joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Todayโs word is โฆ.
So funny as my 31 day challenge was on this very word last year. An entire month of learning exactly what God holds, when He holds, and how He holds. And of course, by the end of the challenge I stood amazed and awed and humbled to realize anew, He truly does hold everything.
This morning as I think on the word “hold”, I remember a cruise we took in which we were at sea for two entire days.
How does one capture the vastness that lies before your eyes for days?
There are no words to describe the feeling of not seeing a thing, not a single thing, but water for days. No land. No shore far off in the distance. No clouds. No birds.
Just water.
Waves and white caps.
As far as the eye can see.
My mind was at such a loss to describe the feeling, the wonderment of realizing that water as far reaching as the horizon also meant water equally as deep. My mind could not truly wrap itself around that which was truly immeasurable. To get up for two mornings and look out confirmed – water was still all that could be seen – was incomprehensible.
And it all spoke of a Creator, a God that was majestic beyond my understanding or ability to grasp.
It boasted of a God, Who Alone, holds the oceans in their place.
Who kept the sea inside its boundaries as it burst from the womb, and as I clothed it with clouds and wrapped it in thick darkness? For I locked it behind barred gates, limiting its shores. I said, โThis far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves stop!โย (Job 38: 8-11, NLT)
It was in that very moment, I learned ….
My God can hold an ocean back with one little shore.
Today I am joining …. Five Minute Friday and Everyday Jesus and Faith Filled Fri. and Friendship Fri. and Fellowship Fri. and Essential Fri. and Equipping Godly Women and Faith & Fellowship .รย
What a neat post! I had never thought about God holding the oceans back with one shore. Cool!! The ocean always mesmerizes me. Stopping by from #FMFparty. Blessings to you.
This thought hit me a few years ago & I have never forgotten it as it made me realize the power of our God. And He is mighty at working in our lives. Grateful our paths crossed yesterday, Leah. Praying!
Smiles and goosebumps from this today. Awesomesauce. Thank you.
I am getting ready to go on a cruise for the first time in a few weeks and I am excited for what that week holds. Great imagery to look forward to. #FMF
Jodie, I hope your cruise astounds & blesses you much the way mine did me. May God bless you with divine opportunities and glimpses of His beauty all week long!
I still have never been on a cruise…always been too claustrophobic but I can fly across the ocean for 8 hours or more and not have a care in the world. Crazy. I cannot imagine seeing nothing but water for two whole days! I am sure it was breathtaking. Loved your analogy. Our God is amazing. รขโขยฅ
Nannette, I had to smile as you mentioned being able to fly across oceans without a care. On our longest flight, to China, I very well remember the fear which overtook me as I realized we were flying over water for hours. And yet, on the ocean, I had not ever feared. We truly are such weird creatures ๐ But no matter whether we are above the waters or on the waters, He remains the same & powerful God. Grateful for you!
I am your #fmf neighbour and I am so glad I came to read this. I’ve always been awed by the depth of the oceans and the verse that says He holds the waters in the palm of his hand. So glad of that reminder today. thank you.
I am so grateful this spoke to you. I am constantly amazed at the way His creation speaks to us of our Creator. I think your name is new to me, so I am going to come visit you this morning ๐ Blessings!
Hi Joanne. I worked with Mercy Ships last year. We sailed from Guinea to the Canary Islands. It is truly astonishing to be out on the open ocean, nothing but water as far as the eye can see, wondering if you’ll ever see land again. Crazy. Our sail lasted nearly a week. I was so happy to see land again. I’m not a cruiser. I like terra firma. I love the scripture you chose. I love the book of Job. ๐
What an amazing opportunity to work with Mercy Ships. While I definitely stood in wonder at the expanse of the ocean, two days at sea was plenty ๐ Thank you for stopping & sharing with me.
We definitely serve an amazing and all-powerful God don’t we! Thanks for sharing on Equipping Godly Women Fellowship Fridays!
I enjoyed being there with you all.
