I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. We all write on the same word.
Today’s word is ….
I’m ready.
Funny how one word can finally string so many of my thoughts together. Up earlier than typical this morning, unable to sleep, I began thinking about my need for a rest. I’m tired beyond my usual.
It’s not just a physical tired. I’m tired mentally and emotionally.
I’ve been reading about Sabbath. Sabbath – the day God set aside or designed – for rest. To rest.
And I’m ready.
The word ‘ready’ immediately brought this verse to mind …
“They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always ready to share with others.” (1 Timothy 6:18, NLT)
Ready means “completely prepared or in fit condition for immediate action or use” (according to dictionary.com).
I am slowly coming to realize my deep need for Sabbath, for rest, even in my capability to cope with the responsibilities and demands of my week. For me to be ready, completely prepared, for my week then I must Sabbath. It is then, and only then, that I will be able to be generous with my time and serve others.
In “24/6”, Matthew Sleeth, MD beautifully puts it this way ….
Sabbath is meant to be a refuge, not a prison. It protects the needy, the displaced, and the powerless. People don’t save the Sabbath; it saves us. (page 58)
I’m ready for some saving.
I’m ready for Sabbath.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Everyday Jesus and Faith Filled Fri. and Friendship Fri. and Fellowship Fridays and Essential Friday and Equipping Godly Women .
For me, this is a perfect take on this week’s prompt. How I need a rest! And these words are going in my journal, so I remember: “For me to be ready, completely prepared, for my week then I must Sabbath. It is then, and only then, that I will be able to be generous with my time and serve others.” Loved this! Happy Friday!
I think we can so often can forget our need to be replenished or restored. Hoping we both get the rest our souls are longing for over the weekend 🙂
You and me both, friend! Ready for a Sabbath. Thank you for reminding me today how important that is. May God encourage your heart today, and may your Sabbath be a beautiful time of worship, refueling and blessing!
We truly need the reminder every now & then to stop & take a rest. Thank you, Julie, for sharing. May our weekends hold some time to be replenished.
Amazing… for the last couple of months my mid-week group and I are all finding this theme pursue us, so much so that it’s become a bit of a joke with us! Every scripture we read shouts “Stop and rest in Me!”. God is calling us into his arms, and into his rest. I still find it a battle to ‘enter into’, but wouldn’t be without that weekly pause. Ever learning…
May we be ever learning, Ruth. So grateful He reminds us to rest in Him.
You know what, Joanne? I am so ready too. I have been trying to rest more these days but still kind of stink at it.
On second thought… I am putting my to do list down for the moment, making a smoothie and heading to the bathtub during my tiny human’s naptime. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
Sharita, what a great use of your little one’s naptime! Grateful for you!
I love the thought of a Sabbath rest!
With how busy life has become for so many of us, we so need the day. So glad you stopped here!
What a unique take! When I think of “ready,” I usually think of action. Yet, rest is something that is every bit as important. And something we really need to ready ourselves for. Thanks for linking up at Equipping Godly Women Fellowship Fridays!
Brittany, I love that “ready” speaks to you of action. It made me realize that sometimes for us to rest, we actually must take action 🙂 Grateful you stopped to share!
Such amazing writing for 5 minutes! Thank you for this lovely reminder of a Sabaths day rest. Oh how I need to be implementing this in my life on a regular basis! Just to be alone with Him, letting Him fill me and restore me! I’m ready too! Thank you again.
I am so glad you stopped here, Erica. May we each come to realize that rest restores to us that which we lose during the course of our activity. Have a wonderful week!
