I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is ….. Prepare.
Our desire is to prepare for Christmas. We address cards, decorate, buy gifts, wrap gifts, hide gifts {{yeah, much goes on surrounding gifts!}}, bake, and more.
I am beginning to wonder if we truly ever feel ALL prepared.
This year, by any simple and probably normal assessment, I am far from prepared.
I have only addressed, maybe two cards. My house is not yet decorated. No wreaths hung at all yet. Tree is still not finished. And so the other day, I posted a picture on Facebook of my favorite corner of my house …
Truth be known, it’s the only corner that is prepared. Here is what hit me ….
While I am yet not prepared, I have never been MORE prepared for Christmas than I am this year!
As I have been reading familiar Scriptures and looking and anticipating Christmas. I have noticed Jesus in the midst of my days this month. He has woven His way into my thoughts and my heart is readied. Each heart must prepare room for Him. No one can do that for you.
The funny thing about heart preparation – it requires no purchase. Nothing more is needed than giving Him time and adoration.
“Joy to the World, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room.”
Today I am joining with …. Five Minute Friday and Everyday Jesus and Fellowship Friday and Friendship Friday .
Ah, you’ve hit the nail on the head–‘preparation that requires no purchase.’ It’s taken me a long time to realize that truth–but there’s so much freedom in that statement! May God keep us prepared in the best way possible all year long!
Anita, love that you made the point to be prepared all year long. So want to be prepared for Him always!!
Love your “little corner”! I am not prepared in the sense of decorating, buying ALL the gifts, etc. But love your short but to the point post about preparing our hearts!! All of the other things are just “STUFF” and our hearts are what matters in preparing! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Barbara. Coming to realize that unless our hearts are prepared, all else will be for naught. May you have a blessed Christmas!
Oh I love this. Your words always bless me. Have a beautiful weekend.
Thank you, Barbie. And congratulations on your new job!
Seeing your corner reminds me of the year I was 9 months pregnant at Christmas (my little boy was born on 12/28). I didn’t decorate at all that year (only had a mini tree much like yours), but I think it was the year I felt most connected to the Christmas story. Maybe it was being so pregnant that I could relate to Mary or walking out of church into an unexpected snow storm. That season was all about preparing to welcome a baby boy. It really is all about how we prepare our hearts, not our homes. Loved this post!
Kathryn, love the story you shared. Perhaps if our hearts are not prepared, we truly are not prepared at all. Love the way in which our Lord gently teaches us. May you have a most blessed Christmas!
I’m so with you on this one … nothing is done, yet my heart is at peace. He is present and this year I’ve decided Christmas doesn’t reign…Christ does! Blessings to you!!
Tiffany, love that you so rightly pointed out that it is all about the Person and not the day. May you have a blessed Christmas!
Your house looks totally prepared Joanne! And your heart is definitely prepared so you are ready!
Thank you! It all takes place in our hearts. May you have a blessed Christmas!
