I am not sure how my friend and I began encouraging one another with these words but we reminded one another often. The words?
“May you soar like an eagle today!”
As life presented each of us different challenges, the only way we could encourage one another was with words. Those same words passed between us often.
And then came her late, yet very much on time, Christmas gift with this homemade card inside ….
As soon as I saw it, it took my breath away! She had beautifully captured the beauty, majesty, and strength of an eagle soaring one day as she looked out in her yard.
~~~~~
A few days later, I remembered watching a turkey in our yard as he attempted to get himself perched on top of our shed. It was repeated attempts to “fly” {{I use that word, loosely}}. He clumsily flapped and hardly was able to get himself off the ground. I sat fascinated and humored as I never knew turkeys were even able to fly at all.
While I give that turkey an A+ for effort and persistence, as he finally was successful, it truly was ugly. It really was.
Here is what has hit me ….
We all go through life with an ability to “fly”. Dictionary.com defines ‘fly’ in this way: “to be carried through the air by the wind or any other force or agency”.
We have a choice to make each and every day >>> What force is going to carry us through our day?
I have pulled my friend’s photo out more times than I can count at this point. And every single time, I hear the familiar words of Isaiah 40:31 —
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
The choice is ours.
Eagle or turkey.
Let’s soar!
Today I am joining with … Thought Provoking Thursday and Coffee for Your Heart and Hearts For Home .
Oh how I love this analogy. We can all fly when we choose the right Source. Great challenge for me to choose carefully every day!
I am so glad you shared, Holly, as you confirm & inspire me to keep choosing carefully.
How wonderful that you and your friend shared that biblical encouragement in an ongoing way–that you share it still. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you, Natalie. May we all choose wisely & thus, soar.
I’ll take this encouragement for myself today! I want to soar through and above some difficult situations in the now, to keep my hope in the One who makes us fly. Thanks, Joanne.
Lisa, prayed for you to have His strength to soar above your circumstances.
Let’s š
Oh, yeah!
Joanne,
Thank you for always sharing that timely piece of encouragement.
Our son’s issue was not over when he returned home.
We prayed, we had others pray, without an answer in sight.
This morning, the Lord, placed a name on my heart.
I called this person, and the problem was cleared up within 30 minutes.
My one word for this year is `Faith`. Already I have had confirmation in several ways.
Through this incident we have learned more about having faith in God.
He is an on time God! Thanks for praying!
Michelle, glad you were encouraged. May God continue to guide you & give you wisdom in the days ahead as you seek to live in faith this year!
Encouraging words. Lately, though, I do feel like that turkey. š
Heather, aren’t you glad that your feelings do not define you. Only His Word does. So my friend, may you soar today & in the days ahead.
