Most Fridays, I join Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is ⦠Ten.
There was ten of them that day. They watched as He entered the village, the law required them to stand at a distance. They were lepers, you know. But it did not keep them from crying out to Him, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
Hearing them, He responded, “Go show yourself to the priests.” They left to go do just that, for it was the priests who would have to pronounce them “clean” of leprosy.
This going, and obeying, would take faith on their part, as they were not yet healed. Their healing would come to them in route to the priests.
And it did.
One of the men, seeing that he was healed, came back to Jesus to thank Him for what he had done. He was the only one who returned to give glory to God.
Jesus identifies him as a “foreigner”. Luke calls him – a Samaritan.
A Samaritan, hated by most, returned with a grateful heart to give thanks. He took nothing for granted.
Jesus notices the lack on the part of the other nine and asks, “Where are the others? Where are the other nine?”
To the foreigner, the Samaritan, He says, “Your faith has made you well.”
I want to be like the one, the one who returned. Christ noticed his gratitude. He also was disturbed by the ungratefulness displayed by the others.
The one received more than the others. He received healing and recognition from the One he called “Jesus and Master”.
Faith grows in the soil of thankfulness.
There were ten.
But only one.
May we be like the one and,
Give thanks.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth and Beloved Brews .
I love that story and like you, I want to be the one who never forgets to be grateful. Thanks for the encouragement to do just that, Joanne!
Holly, it amazes me how reading that story hits me every time. Too often I fear I am more like the nine rather than the one. I was so grateful for the word prompt which brought the reminder to be grateful for all He’s done in my life.
“Faith grows in the soil of thankfulness.” That’s a fantastic line. You FMF neighbor!
Grateful you visited. May our soils be thick with thankfulness this week š
Thanks, neighbor! May God continue His good work in you. Blessings!
Thank you for always encouraging!
Hello fmf friend.
I love this reflection. I just went back and read the passage again because I never knew that the one healed and returned was a Samaritan. that brings even more depth to the interaction for me. my heart was convicted as I realized how many times I am the nine that do not return to praise and give thanks.
I was amazed to realize the one was a Samaritan & like you, it hit me deeply. I had never known that either before. It’s interesting how we can be so familiar with a story & yet learn something new. Grateful you stopped here & shared. Have a great week!
Yes, I want to be like the one. Thank you for posting this reminder in such an elegant way – I love your take on ‘ten’. Oh God, help me to be thankful in all things. I’m glad you are my neighbor today.
I love how these one word prompts can do such a deep work in our hearts. Thank you for visiting & have a great week!
What a profound take on the number 10 Joanne…wow! I too want to be the one who is always grateful. No matter what the circumstance; I want to always remember to thank God for His love and allowing me to become a child of His. I want Him to be glorified in all that I do. Thanks again for sharing. May God bless you and yours
Thanks for taking the time to visit back, Horace. Your comment made me realize that if we remember that we are His, we will grow in gratitude for all He’s done. Have a great week!
love this story I was trying to think of what to write myself when I saw the word prompt. It is a hard word. Good job.
Sharon, I saw that many thought the word was difficult. I found this one easier than some others. I think it was because He had already begun to turn my heart towards gratitude. Next week might be your word š Blessings!
Beautiful, friend. I too want to be that one who seeks Him out and gives my thanks.
May we both grow in gratitude to Him this week!
Great job with the prompt, Joanne. I didn’t write an fmf post this week, but I enjoyed yours. I want to be like that one too. As you say, gratitude breeds FAITH! š
liked this post.
Just another reminder for me to always be grateful. Love you my friend!
One would think gratitude would come easier than it does. That we would not need a reminder. And yet, I find a reminder now & then does my heart a world of good. Grateful for you & all you brew!
