Most Fridays, I join Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.
Today the word prompt is … Same.
I see the prompt and ask myself, “Who do I want to be the same as? Who is it that I would want to be identical to?”
It is truly a hard question to ask of oneself. We grow up often being told to be ourselves. There’s only one of us. Be the best you that you can be.
Yet, the world and those around us, will try to squeeze us into its mold.
And so, when I asked myself the question, only one answer came to mind:
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” (Philippians 2:5, NLT)
Christ had an attitude of humility, of obedience to the Father, of serving.
Christ was selfless; genuinely caring for those around Him.
He emptied Himself to come down to our level, not making anything grand of Himself. No platform. Not worrying about numbers. Serving whomever was around and in need.
He did not cling to His “rights”. He laid everything aside to be with those the Father put before Him.
This same attitude needs to be evident in my life.
Loving all peoples.
Serving others.
Thinking less of me and more of Him.
“It’s not great talents that God blesses, but great likeness to Jesus.”
(Robert Murray M’Cheyne)
May I desire to be the same as Jesus.
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth and Blessing Counters .
In My Thoughts,
Joanne
I love how Jesus became the “same” as us – to set the model for how we can have the same heart as him. What a loving God to stoop to our level and show us the way firsthand.
It is humbling to think about, isn’t it, Kathryn? He came the same for us all. May we be more like Him.
More of THEE and less of ME! Yes, so good Joanne. Amazing that we can be like our Savior if we desire to be. Blessings!
Exactly, Nannette 🙂 So good of you to share!
Joanne – We’re neighbors today at FMF – yaa! Straightforward and applicable – you always have such a positive message. Especially this, today “…no platform…serving whomever was around and in need…” Sometimes I get so tied up in what the message will be and who will be reading it and what they will say, that I don’t even write a message – who am I anyway, that anyone would want to listen… Jesus never second-guessed himself, and he never compromised his message for the masses. He listened and obeyed his Father – oh that I would always do the same! I am so glad to visit today.
Love the point you have made, Janet. Let’s just share Jesus & leave the rest to Him. Grateful for you!
Oh that I could be just like Him! Grateful that He is always at work in us bring us to completion, to the day when we will be just like Him.
Holly, when we draw our last breath & we stand before Him, we will be just like Him!
