Itās Friday! Iām joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Many of us writing on that same word.
Todayās prompt is ā¦ Want.
The word want – use it as a verb and it means something we think we need or desire. The craving can grow inside of us until we think we absolutely must have our “want” or we will die.
Upon seeing the word, I immediately remembered a quote written in the back of my Bible and I turn to read –
“Jesus flees Satan’s temptation, not because He doesn’t like bread, but because He wants more bread than Satan can provide.”
(Pete Wilson, tweet from 3/10/12)
I have never forgotten that quote. Jesus knew that there is nothing in life which will satisfy our wants, or our cravings. He knew the entire world belonged to one Person, His heavenly Father, and it was He alone who would provide all things for Him.
But Jesus wanted more than the food His physical body was yearning in those moments. His want was for more than bread or anything this world can provide.
In resisting the temporal want for earthly bread, Jesus became the Bread of Life to us all. May He be the only Bread I want.
“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.”
(Philippians 3:10, NLT)
Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Grace & Truth and Dance With Jesus and Fresh Market Friday .
This is lovely, Joanne! I’m glad I linked up to you at #FMF. Happy weekend!
Thank you!
Hi Joanne, funny thing happened….I opened your blog from Susan Shipe’s only to notice you just left mine! Looks like we were on each other’s mind.
Powerful refection, may Jesus continually be the Bread I want!
God Bless Sweet friend.
Have an awesome weekend
I noticed that this had occurred, Ifeoma. Too funny. Have a wonderful day!
I really like you, Joanne – I believe we could be sisters but definitely kindred souls! Beautiful post and to every point you make? A resounding, YES, LORD! xo
Thank you, Susan, for blessing me this morning! Have a wonderful weekend!
This is awesome! Beautiful expression of how our hearts should be seeking Him always.
And yet our hearts are prone to wander. May we seek Him alone in the days ahead.
Great reminder to stir up the desire for Him in my heart more than anything else!
Yes! I so needed to remind myself this week.
Yes! “May He be the only Bread I want!” Me too!
Great post and thank you for sharing that Pete Wilson quote.
I have loved that quote from Pete Wilson since he tweeted it out in 2012 š I am glad you were blessed by it too!
This is just beautiful! Wanting God- the One who can truly satisfy.
Thank you, Ally. May we realize more fully that He is the only One who is everything we need. Blessings!
Only Christ can satisfy our deep inner longings. I can’t wait to feast with Him at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb! No more gluten-free in my new, heavenly body. But even then, the Bread of Life will be the One who truly delights my soul! š
This pretty well puts all of our earthly wants into perspective in one fell swoop! I needed this today…as I try to temper my own earthly wants and timelines for the week. Time to exhale and rest in this truth:) Crystal~
